PEACE LOVE EMPATHY AND A BIT OF JACKASSERY

I was born in Philadelphia, PA but had lived in New Jersey, Idaho, Washington, Hawaii, and Oregon by the time I was 17. These adventures led to an appreciation of proper bagels, soft pretzels, trees, the ocean, and packing light. And a bit of trauma but that’s the novel I’ll never write.

I paint with oil and acrylic, and also work with old magazines (1960-1970s are my favorites), books, and sewing patterns. I often incorporate snippets of text, loving to take words out of context. My art is part planning, part intuition. My work has multiple layers especially with oil paint, using sandpaper and scraping tools to reveal bits of what’s below.

I am inspired by our natural world as well as popular culture, politics, and emotional messiness. Whether I am painting crows, humans, barns, flowers, or little tantrum throwing creatures my work reflects my love of color, light, and humor.

Likes: Black coffee, pie, tacos, the ocean, trees, cats, walking, dancing, swimming, friends, family, doing nothing, gardening especially grow food and flowers from seeds it’s freaking amazing, music music music, making stuff.

Dislikes: Dickishness like leaf blowers, tail-gating, and men telling women what to do with their bodies.

But back to the likes: rivers, mountains, clouds, shadows, jumping into lakes, crows, rain, and the smell of yarrow and pines trees on a hot summer day.
